Questions about Lazarus 3 (for Google Chrome, Firefox and Safari)
Lazarus 3 is not as mature as the Firefox version, but it is getting closer. We have recently made a significant update and are looking forward to your feedback.
What is Lazarus?
Lazarus is a free add-on for the Chrome browser which makes backups of the data you've entered into web forms. It then stores this data so you can easily recover it if you need to re-enter it for some reason. Many of us have had the experience of spending ages entering data into a long form, only to see it vanish when an error occurs after we try to submit it. With Lazarus, this need never happen again!
How do I use Lazarus?
Lazarus will automatically save the data you enter into web-based forms while you are typing. If you need to re-enter the data into the form, simply:
- go back to that page again
- click on the textbox to make the Lazarus icon appear
- click the Lazarus icon to list the recoverable text
- and select the text to recover
Lazarus will then retrieve what it saved and automatically put it back into the form.
Where does Lazarus keep the saved data?
Lazarus saves all its form information inside an SQLite database located in your browser's profile folder:
For Google Chrome this is:
- Windows 7: C:\Users\{username}\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default\databases\chrome-extension_loljledaigphbcpfhfmgopdkppkifgno_0).
- Ubuntu: ~/.config/chromium/Default/databases/chrome-extension_loljledaigphbcpfhfmgopdkppkifgno_0
- Mac OSX: No idea, if you do find it can someone contact me and tell me where it's located so I can update the FAQ. Cheers.
I'll add in the Firefox and Safari location some other time.
Can I disable Lazarus for certain sites?
Yes, just open the Lazarus menu and select "Disable Lazarus on this site"
Does Lazarus save all the text I type?
We try to, but some things are beyond our control. The Chrome extension APIs are still evolving and as such there are a number of things we are not yet able to do (eg access dynamic iframes within pages, etc...). So at the moment we save all text entered into "normal" web forms.
We plan on supporting WYSIWYG editors, and forms within dynamic iframes once the chrome API allows us to supports these features,
Neither Flash nor Java based forms are supported.
